Welcome to Independence At Home

Independence at Home (formerly known as Invalids-at-Home) was founded in October 1965. Since then, we have worked steadily to help improve independence, comfort, safety, dignity and quality of life for people with long-term illness and disability, who choose to manage this in much-loved surroundings, at home. Our clients have a common aim – they all wish to continue their lives as valued members of the family and community in which they live. This is what we would all want.

We have, as always, met this challenge through making carefully targeted financial help available to people in need, to enable them to access adaptations, special equipment and other items and services to make an immediate and practical impact on daily life at home.

During 2008 we made grants to 1,250 people so that they, their families and their carers could once again experience a little of the independence and freedom that most people take for granted. We are proud of our record in making grants. Since 1965, Independence at Home’s grants have made life at home easier and safer for over 35,000 individuals of all ages, and from all parts of the UK.

Each of these 35,000 people received a grant through the whole-hearted generosity of others – individuals, Trusts, Companies and Foundations – all of whom share our view that life at home for many people can be improved by even the most modest injection of funds. We are so grateful to the many supporters who have funded our work so magnificently. We thank them most sincerely for their continued generosity and for their kindness to each and every one of our clients.
